Resin Jewellery for Beginners: Preserve Real Flowers in Pendants & Earrings

Turn wedding flowers and favourite blooms into keepsake jewellery. Materials, safety and step-by-step basics.

Handmade resin pendants with preserved dried flowers

Resin jewellery lets you freeze a moment in time — a petal from a wedding garland, a flower from a first date, or simply a bloom you love. Clear, glossy and personal, resin pendants and earrings are wonderful keepsakes and popular gifts.

What is resin jewellery?

Resin is a liquid that hardens (cures) into a clear, solid material. When you pour it into moulds or bezels with dried flowers, glitter or tiny objects, it preserves them inside a glass-like finish.

There are two common types for jewellery:

  • Epoxy resin — mixed from two parts; cures over 24–72 hours; great for moulds
  • UV resin — single part; cures in minutes under a UV lamp; ideal for small pieces and bezels

Materials you need

  • Epoxy or UV resin
  • Silicone moulds or open bezels
  • Completely dried and pressed flowers
  • Mixing cups and sticks
  • Gloves, mask and a well-ventilated space
  • Toothpicks or a heat tool to remove bubbles
  • Jewellery findings: jump rings, chains, earring hooks

Safety first

Step-by-step: a flower resin pendant

  1. Prepare flowers: press and dry them fully — any moisture causes browning.
  2. Measure and mix: follow the exact ratio on your resin pack and mix slowly to avoid bubbles.
  3. First layer: pour a thin base layer into the mould.
  4. Place flowers: arrange petals face-down (for moulds) using a toothpick.
  5. Top up: pour more resin to cover the flowers completely.
  6. Remove bubbles: gently use a toothpick or a quick pass of a heat tool.
  7. Cure: leave undisturbed and dust-free for the full curing time.
  8. Demould and finish: sand edges if needed and attach findings.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Wet flowers → brown spots over time
  • Wrong ratio → sticky resin that never cures
  • Mixing too fast → lots of bubbles
  • Cold room → slow, cloudy curing

Ideas to try

  • Wedding garland petal pendants
  • Initial letter keychains
  • Floral stud earrings
  • Coasters and bookmarks with pressed flowers
  • Rakhi and festival gifts

Frequently asked questions

Can I preserve fresh flowers in resin?

Flowers must be completely dried and pressed first. Fresh flowers contain moisture that causes browning and decay inside the resin.

How long does resin jewellery take to cure?

UV resin cures in minutes under a UV lamp, while epoxy resin typically needs 24–72 hours depending on the brand and room temperature.

Is resin safe to work with at home?

Yes, with precautions — wear gloves, work in a ventilated space, keep it away from food and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
